Growing to be one of the most important festivites in the Mexican southeast, Carnival of the island of Cozumel is right around the corner! To attend the most important party on the island is to enjoy the typical dancing group contest, the float ride, a cheerful multicolored evening, pet contest, as masked night and a folk costume contest, just to name some of the activities. The biggest celebrations and parades will take place on the nights of Saturday, Sunday Fat Tuesday.

The season of the whale sharks in the Yucatan Peninsula begins from mid-May and ends close to the mid of September. However, the greatest concentration of whale sharks that you can find in Riviera Maya is between the months of July and August. It is during the summer season that people from all around the world come to enjoy their vacation in Riviera Maya. And you will be absolutely surprised to know that a huge number of whale sharks come to feed on plankton, in the northern Isla Mujeres and Holbox areas.
The Mayan Travesy is an ancient Mayan tradition celebrated each year at the end of May. See traditional canoers row all the way to Cozumel.
Polé (Xcaret) has been through history, the main departure port for the ancient Mayan pilgrims heading to Kuzamil (Cozumel), and the start point to the Sacred Mayan Journey 2020, as well. The farewell ceremony of the Messengers of the Moon and their helmsmen will take place with the first rays of the sun when they depart to Cozumel to visit the sanctuary of Ixchel, the moon goddess.
Mexicans celebrate their country’s Independence Day with fireworks, parties (fiestas), food, dance and music on September 16. Flags, flowers and decorations in the colors of the Mexican flag – red, white and green – are seen in public areas in cities and towns in Mexico. Whistles and horns are blown and confetti is thrown to celebrate this festive occasion. "Viva Mexico" or "Viva la independencia” are shouted amidst the crowds on this day.
