Swim With the (Whale) Sharks

Swim With the (Whale) Sharks

June 26, 2015

While swimming with sharks may sound like an activity only for the very brave, swimming with whale sharks is an altogether more enjoyable experience. Though they are the largest known fish species, whale sharks are filter feeders, meaning they eat plankton, not people, and are generally docile and even known to gently play with divers. You can get up close and personal with these magnificent animals with Ocean Tours Riviera Maya, located less than a half-mile from our Playa del Carmen resort. In the summer, hundreds of whale sharks swim to the Caribbean, making now the best time to spot them. For those not looking to make friends with fish, Ocean Tours also offers tours of turtle sanctuaries, coral reefs and underwater caverns. The guides are patient, well-trained and ready to accommodate any skill level, so come get better acquainted with your underwater neighbors.
